About us

Growing up with dogs I always knew that I would have the house full of them but that it would be three wonderful Rhodesian Ridgebacks wasn’t exactly a plan.
When I meet my first Ridgeback, a male that was shearing for his dad at a hockey game, I immediately fell for his calm and dignified way. I started to read everything I could find about the breed and a couple of years later it was possible for me and Mike to get a puppy late fall 2003. By then we had been keeping an eye on some of the kennels in Sweden thru their websites and we were very happy when it was decided that we were going to have one of the males in the upcoming litter at Rex Ventors kennel.

The liver nosed puppy caught our eyes and we begged a little extra to have him. Haranyo has been a very good “starter” into the RR-world. He’s been a very gentle male with lots of charisma. He often get the left over’s from guests and is always referred to as the obvious pack-leader.

I had an interest in obedience and field tracking but with Haranyo I was also introduced to the world of dog shows and not before long I was hooked. Soon after purchasing Haranyo I was also asked if I wanted to be a part of the board in the Swedish RR Club West and with my new hobby (dog shows and long walks with other RR-people) a lot of time was spent with ridgebacks and their owners.

Haranyo gained his champion title in 2005 and by then we had two males. Ikaros came to us in October 2003 and from day one we realized that this was going to be a completely different journey. Ikaros was very lively with tons of energy; he wasn’t too excited about other males and a true hunter. It took us about three years and a lot of training before he calmed down but it gave us a lot of knowledge and experience that now comes in handy in many different situations.  Also Ikaros was shown and he holds the titles Swedish, Danish and Estonian champion. Just like Haranyo he is also a Swedish field tracking champion showing great skills in tracking.

Ikaros is also used in stud and being so we were introduced to the joys (and sorrows) of breeding. Combined with my interest and devotion for the bred it was only natural that I started to consider breeding myself but for that to be possible I needed a girl. Looking for a girl was challenging. I had a couple of favorite dogs and litters that I was looking at and I wanted to have a girl with a pedigree that I was at least little familiar with. Since she hopefully would be my foundation bitch I wanted to “know” as much as possible just for the plain reason not to buy a pig in a poke.

In July 2007 Lani came to live with us. Three months earlier we had a baby-girl, Emmie, but there were no problems raising a puppy and taking care of a little baby. I think Lani has considered Emmie to be her litter-sister from day one and they live in thru sisterhood. Lani is a true girl, a princess that has Haranyo and Ikaros totally in love with her. She is very easy-going, protective of Emmie and just the best family member.

Also Lani has done very well in the show rings and holds the title Swedish champion. She was also Best in show Junior at the World Winner Specialty show in July 2008.

As mentioned I do attend some dog shows and various RR-events especially since I’m still active in our breed club so if you want to meet don’t hesitate to take contact or give us a call.

We look forward to follow our future Ohgami-litters and get to know puppy buyers and their families. We feel very confident for many happy moments to come.
